Clinical Practice

At Penn, faculty are engaged in clinical practice, sites are specifically selected for each student, varying from urban to rural, public to private, and academic medical centers to community-based settings.

This ongoing clinical experience not only provides the cases and examples to guide the classroom, but also provides an important perspective for research. Current student experiences include opportunities to work with teenagers, women from immigrant communities, public health projects, ultrasounds and antenatal testing, and practice both obstetrics and gynecology in a program that emphasizes care of the woman throughout her lifespan.

The clinical practice is supplemented by an extensive technology lab with state-of-the-art simulation. Penn nurse-midwifery graduates are eligible for dual certification as Women’s Health/Gender Related Nurse Practitioners and as certified nurse-midwives.
