Post-Graduate APRN Certificate Programs

The Post-Graduate APRN Certificate Program is for nurse practitioners who are seeking to earn a nurse practitioner certification in another NP population. These programs can be pursued by nurse practitioners who have completed either a MSN or DNP.

Program Outcomes

Students in Fagin Hall

The graduates of the Post Graduate APRN Certificate program meet specific outcomes related to each role and patient population of interest as indicated below. These student learning outcomes align with the Essentials presented for Master’s and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs required by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Recognizing that not all the Essentials are covered in the courses taken at Penn Nursing, program directors perform a gap analysis to ensure that these core essentials are addressed and met at the completion of the MSN degree. The expected outcome upon completion of this certificate program is that the APRN will integrate theoretical and clinical expertise to demonstrate mastery of specific population-focused student learning outcomes. To achieve this expected outcome, a graduate will
  1. Formulate plans of care for population-specific diagnoses.
  2. Deliver educational and therapeutic interventions using advanced health assessment, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and genetics.
More details on this process are located on each of the individual certificate webpages.

Which program is right for you?

While program curricula prepare students to sit for national certification within their role and population area, APRN graduates may be required to complete additional state specific requirements before being permitted to practice.

  • You have completed either a MSN or DNP for your current APRN role
  • You now want to focus on acutely ill and chronically complex patients
  • You are considering specializing in neonates, pediatrics, or adult gerontology

Select the population you wish to focus on:
